1 million in lakhs

Table of Contents

  • one million is equivalent to 10 lakhs.

One lakh is a term used in South Asia to denote 100,000. Therefore, one million can be expressed in lakhs by dividing one million by 100,000.

1,000,000 / 100,000 = 10

one million is equivalent to 10 lakhs.

When it comes to discussing large sums of money, it’s common for different countries and regions to use different currency denominations. For example, in India, the term “lakh” is often used to represent 100,000 units of the local currency, which is the Indian rupee. Meanwhile, in many other parts of the world, including the United States and Europe, it’s more common to use “million” as a unit of currency.

So, what happens when you want to convert between these two systems? Specifically, how many lakhs are there in a million? Let’s explore this question in more detail.

Firstly, let’s clarify what we mean by “lakh.” As mentioned above, it represents 100,000 units of the Indian rupee. So, when someone says “1 lakh,” they mean 100,000 rupees.

Now, let’s turn our attention to “million.” This is a term that represents one thousand thousand, or 1,000,000. So, when someone says “1 million,” they mean 1,000,000 units of currency.

To convert million to lakhs, we need to divide one million by 100,000. This gives us 10. So, 1 million in lakhs is equivalent to 10 lakhs.

To put this in perspective, imagine that you have 1 million rupees. This would be the equivalent of having 10 lakhs. Conversely, if someone told you that they had 5 lakhs, this would be equivalent to 500,000 rupees, or half a million.

In summary, when converting between different currency systems, it’s important to understand the different denominations and how they relate to one another. When it comes to the Indian rupee, the term “lakh” represents 100,000 units of currency.

Meanwhile, “million” is a more common unit used in many other parts of the world, representing 1,000,000 units of currency. To convert between these two systems, you need to divide one million by 100,000, which gives you 10. So, 1 million in lakhs is equivalent to 10 lakhs.
