What is the full form of IAS?

The Full form of IAS is “Indian Administrative Service”.

Eligibility Criteria for IAS

To become an IAS officer, a candidate must be a citizen of India and must have completed at least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The age limit for the General category is between 21 to 32 years, while for the reserved category, it is between 21 to 37 years.

Selection Process of IAS Officer

The selection process for the IAS includes three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview. The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers, General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II, both objective types. The Main Examination consists of nine papers, including one optional subject. The Interview round is the final stage of the selection process.

The selected candidates undergo training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie for a period of two years. The training includes various aspects of administration, including law, economics, management, and other related subjects.

The pay scale of an entry-level IAS officer is Rs. 56,100 (basic pay) per month. In addition to the basic pay, an IAS officer is entitled to various allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Travel Allowance (TA).

The salary structure of an IAS officer is as follows:

Junior Time Scale: Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,77,500
Senior Time Scale: Rs. 67,700 – Rs. 2,08,700
Junior Administrative Grade: Rs. 78,800 – Rs. 2,09,200
Selection Grade: Rs. 1,18,500 – Rs. 2,14,100
Super Time Scale: Rs. 1,44,200 – Rs. 2,18,200
Above Super Time Scale: Rs. 2,25,000 (fixed)
Apart from the salary, an IAS officer also gets other perks and benefits such as government-provided housing, medical facilities, and travel allowances. It is important to note that the salary structure is subject to change from time to time as per the government’s policies.

Is IAS a stressful job?

Yes, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) can be a very stressful job, as it involves a high level of responsibility, long working hours, and the need to make difficult decisions on a daily basis. As an IAS officer, one is responsible for implementing government policies and programs, managing public resources, and addressing the needs and concerns of citizens.
